Are you willing to do what it takes to get to your best self?

Folks,

Remember the movie “As Good As It Gets”  with Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt?  Well if you recall, Jack had an obsessive-compulsive disorder.  He needed to take medication for it but wasn’t doing it until he met Helen Hunt.

There is a scene where they are going to have dinner and Jack makes a comment to Helen about wearing a house dress to dinner and wonders why he needed to go get a jacket and a tie.  This terribly upsets Helen and she’s ready to leave the restaurant.  So, Jack pays Helen a compliment so that she doesn’t leave the restaurant.   He tells her that she makes him want to be a better man and so he has begun taking his daily pill for his disorder.

You see, when I speak of being your best self, it’s about being in a state of peace and joy so that you can do the things that you desire to do – to actually live life to the fullest.  It’s about your mind, body and spirit being in it’s best balance.  You want to function to the best of your ability so that you can perform not only your activities for daily living (ADLs) but to also do all the other physical activities that you desire.

You define your best self. Your age doesn’t define you.  Your ailment doesn’t define you.  Your pain doesn’t define you.
